The CFO and a Duck
April 30, 2008 by jflohr
Today I had a couple of morning appointments with local doctors. Konsyl is investigating some different products and it’s always good to bounce your ideas off someone in the field of medicine. While I was in one office, I saw a sheet on Diverticulosis. It read that 50% of all people over the age of 60 have this disease. I already know that there are about 100 million people in the U.S. over the age of 60, so that means there are 50,000,000 with this condition. That is incredible!!!!!!!!! Now, not all people with Diverticulosis will get Diverticulitis, which is the inflammation of the pockets and pouches of the intestines.
Why bring this up???
It seems that our CFO — who is in his 30’s, in good health — had a bout of diverticulitis. He was unaware of having this condition and so for three days he has been on a clear diet and then is supposed to start adding fiber to his diet. He has a great job, since he is now familiar with a product like Konsyl and I can get updates on his progress. You never know what can happen in life so its imperative to pay attention to your body.
Oh yeah, the duck. I do not know how it came up, but in a conversation one of the Konsyl team came out with “If the ocean was whiskey and I was a duck I would swim to the bottom and never come up.” What is the name of the song???
Tomorrow— What is with all the fibers???
The fiber guy

Dear fiber guy,
Thank you for the mention in your blog and for tying my woes in with a DUCK!! It is embarassing to call in to the fiber guy and say, “I’m not coming in to work today, I have diverticulitis.” I think the exact words from his lips were, “You have what!!??”
I guess as the 30-something (yes, I do remember that show from the late 80’s) I felt I was immune to the more serious conditions. When I take my Konsyl each morning my gastro issues seem to stay in check. Lately I have been focusing on other things than my health and it catches up with me.
Well, I’m on a nearly regular diet (sorry chicken broth and jello) and two days back on my Konsyl. My flavor is Original Konsyl with orange juice. I am feeling better and ready to tackle this thing on a daily basis. I will have my colonoscopy after the antibiotics are done and will keep you posted on my progress (sorry, no Katie Couric-Live Colonoscopy event!).
I welcome any other 20, 30 or 40-somethings to share their story and how you have battled or tamed the big D. It’s definitely not an age-specific condition.
CFO
Hello Fiber Guy,
I just emailed this post to myself and it worked!
So i guess Feedburner doesn’t require the blogger to be a member any longer. Thanks for pointing it out to me. Ok, time to update my post!
FG,
I just happened across your site and blog - both pretty interesting - but am writing about the duck. My ex-husband was a blues musician, and there was one song he used to sing that includes the line, “If the river was whiskey and I was a diving duck, I’d dive down to the bottom and I’d never come up….”
See, I knew that knowledge would come in handy some day!
[...] 7, 2008 by jflohr I just got an update from our CFO. If you did not read about him last week, let’s just say he is dealing with a situation. Anyway, after a couple of days on a clear [...]
if i were a fish and the ocean were rye,
i’d dive to the bottom, and there i would die!
rye whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey i cry!
if i don’t have whiskey, i surely will die!
that’t the song as i know it..many years ago

Have any diet ideas..nuts, berries pop-corn, and non-fat organic milk makes up a lot of my diet…rrrr..i’ll smash my nuts, and i’m a female! ..too off the wall? too late no time to erase, i’m getting real hungry, so if there are any ideas out there, type a bit, thanks..anne
